Have you thought about looking into your family tree? This four-session program is designed for beginner genealogists who want to learn more about how to start or continue their research. We will explore the reasons to study genealogy, how to gather, organize and store information, and how to preserve and present what you have learned. Archival and internet sources including newspaper and cemetery references will be examined, with a focus on determining whether a document is accurate and relevant to your family’s story. Learn how to decide what records should exist for an ancestor and then how to go about finding the records. We will also discuss techniques for interviewing family members.
Alan Steinfeld, M.D. has been exploring his family’s genealogy for over 40 years. A native of New York City, he traces his ancestry to Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His support of the larger genealogy community includes participation in the indexing of records for the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry and the American Jewish Historical Society. He has written articles published in Avotaynu, the International Journal of Jewish Genealogy and contributed a chapter to the book, Every Family Has a Story. Alan has taught genealogy to students of all ages, and presented a wildly popular seminar for the Workers Circle’s Taste of Jewish Genealogy Series in April 2021.
$100 for Workers Circle Members, $136 for Non Members
We will email a recording of the October 27 session to anyone who joins before November 3.
